Sabra

Hi, my name is Sabra, I am a 7 year-old branded Mustang.

Vikki, the director of Mustangs R Horses Rescue adopted me in May of 2002 when I was a yearling filly.

At first I was scared of people and being confined, since I had been born in the wild.

My first summer with Vikki she spent a lot of time teaching me that I could trust her. By the end of the summer I loved having the kids brush me and give me treats. I was no longer scared of getting in the trailer and I had learned a lot of ground work.

Vikki always tells me that I am the beginning of her love for Mustangs and all horses. She also said that I am the inspiration behind Mustangs R Horses Rescue.

Santiago

Hello, my name is Santiago; I am a 28 year-old Palamino gelding.

I was the first horse rescued by Mustangs R Horses Rescue. I was found at a auction and was going to be bought by the kill buyer; Vikki stepped in and bought me before the kill buyer.

When I was brought to my new home I was emaciated; I had galled spots on my face from a halter that had not be removed for two years and had grown to small.

I was seen by a vet who put me on a special diet; all my food had to be turned into a mush so that I could eat it. It took some time but I began to put on weight and I could eat normal grain. But my favorite food is bread and apples.

I still have trouble keeping up with younger horses so my pasture mates are three llamas named Friday, Zoey and Noel.

Savanna

Hi my name is Savanna. I am an 20 year-old mustang mare, I was captured in the wild and adopted out by the BLM. I had many owners over the years, however my last owners rescued me from people who didn't take proper care of me.

Being blind in my left eye I didn't like being part of a large herd that included stallions.

Mustangs R Horses Rescue offered to take me and give me my new forever home.

Now I am part of a small herd of horses, mostly other mustangs, that I am comfortable being with.

Update!

I passed away on January 7, 2008 which broke Vikki's heart. I hope she knows that I will be waiting for her at the Rainbow Bridge.

Dakota

Hi, my name is Dakota and I am a 10 year-old Registered Quarter Horse gelding with Navicular Disease.

I came to live at the Mustangs R Horses Rescue when my owners decided to retire me.

Now I am only ridden lightly, once or twice a month. I love to go on walks, even if I can't go as often as I like. When we walk next to the soy bean fields I like to grab a snack as often as I can.

Most of the time I am a companion to several other horses. Hey, somebody has to keep those mares in line.
